Elements of Competency Performance Criteria
Element: Identify and characterise raw materials
  • Identify raw materials against established workplace criteria
  • Enter raw material characteristics into compost recipe calculator to achieve a balanced recipe
  • Take samples of material for analysis where raw material identity or characteristics are uncertain
  • Determine receivable and handling requirements of raw materials

Element: Establish production objectives
  • Develop product specifications for identified markets using product performance data and enterprise records
  • Identify raw material combinations that meet market requirements

Element: Calculate compost recipe
  • Record raw material characteristics in compost recipe
  • Specify raw material ratios by weight in resulting compost recipe
  • Determine raw material pre-processing requirements, volumes of compost upon formation, and compost production plan
  • Review and document composting batch management procedures
  • Estimate and document compost production schedule
  • Verify compost recipe and production schedule against compost production plan
  • Quantify density of pre-processed raw materials and translate weight-based recipe into volume-based recipe for production
  • Record volumetric compost recipe and production procedures as operational batch or bucket recipe and procedures

Element: Validate compost recipe
  • Prepare and mix raw materials to form feedstock for composting
  • Supervise composting batch according to workplace procedure
  • Monitor composting process for efficiency in relation to estimated production schedule and workplace requirements
  • Monitor environmental and health and safety aspects and impacts
  • Identify faults, variations or problems, and implement remedial action
  • Sample and test material to determine completion of process
  • Evaluate end product quality against product specifications
  • Revise compost recipe, production schedule and procedures

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
